FAQ’s
When and where do you meet?
Saturday’s, 10:30am, at Twin Lakes Park Trailhead Pavilion. The Trailhead Pavilion is located at the opposite end of the parking lot from Twin Lakes Family YMCA, at the Brushy Creek Hike and Bike Trailhead. Meetings are 1.5 to 2 hours long, depending on programming.
Is 183rd Tonkawa a scout group?
183rd Tonkawa did start out as a traditional scout group in 2016 with a charter to an all-inclusive national scouting organization. During COVID, we had time to reflect on our goals and methods of achievement, and decided to venture out into the community as an independent organization. You may notice that many of our goals and activities still align with traditional scouting, such as wood craft, outdoor skills, camping, hiking, and badge work, etc. We feel that becoming our own independent group allows not only for more creativity in our programming, but for more inclusion, as well.
Do you always meet outdoors?
We try! One of our many goals is for members to spend as much quality time outdoors as possible. In the event of inclimate weather such as severe thunderstorms or frigid temperatures, our meetings will be moved indoors. Any meeting changes will be announced by email, Instagram, and Facebook. We ask that parents dress their kiddos for the appropriate weather conditions.
My child is also a Boy Scout/Girl Scout. Can they be members of 183rd Tonkawa, also?
Yes! 183rd Tonkawa is not in competition with any other outdoor group. We have members that maintain membership in multiple outdoor organizations.
